put it on neutral and you won’t overcharge your battery…. duh….
haha

@gremlinextreme101
I could better that in my Rover 420 diesel!!

Anyway, I don’t belive you; this car may manage that if if wasn’t for the extra weight of the batteries and the fact that they need re-charging, also those batteries are wearing out every-time they are used and replacing them isn’t cheap, and certainly not ‘good’ for the environment. Batteries are nasty!

BTW, I can get nearly 50mpg from current 2-litre petrol

it does, the prius is at 99 mpg when it fully uses its secondary electric motor. Of course you don’t use gas when driving downhill, but the difference is that you can’t drive without gas (99 mpg) at 35mph on flat ground for 3 miles, the prius can.

better for everyday use!? i average 60 mpg on the highway, i doubt you get that in a rover

not really, sense the engine is connected to the wheels. when the wheel turn as you go downhill you could keep it going with little to no fuel.

The Prius is a criminal in envonmental terms, my 10-year-old 2 litre Rover is much better for every day use. These motors are a con, please don’t fall for it

im just saying that getting 99mpg when your foot is off the throttle is nothing.

i reset my mpg monitor on my V8 and on the hwy i went about 20 miles, got nothing less then 28mpg the whole way.

thats for a northstar v8.

lmao
99mpg.

i can get that in my V8 northstar caddy when i reset the mpg monitor and have my foot off the gas going downhill.

means nothing.

MORON

That sounds like a good idea, as long as you remember to remove the insulation in warmer weather so the engine doesn’t overheat.

Do you actually mean the diesel engine uses NO FUEL when the vehicle is MOVING, SLOWING DOWN and IN GEAR, with the foot OFF the accelerator?
A parked up diesel will ALWAYS use fuel to idle. There’s gotta be something moving those engine parts around or else perpetual motion.

Well is your 84 Blazer 4 x heavier than a prius? (5 tonnes). It doesn’t matter about engine capacity as much as each churn of an engine of greater capacity will move the vehicle further down the road.

It does use diesel, where were you taught it doesn’t???my dad works for freightliner ( a semi-truck company if you didn’t know) and he is 100% positive that they use diesel when they idle. For explanation there is no way with the law of conservation of energy in affect that that could be possible, it needs some other source of energy, this source of energy is DIESEL FUEL. Compression alone cannot keep a diesel engine turning. Diesel CAN!

no, not at all, a diesel engine uses compression to IGNITE the fuel air mix in the cylinder, keeping it simple for you no fuel=no ignition in cylinder=no expantion of gas=no force applyed to pistion down stroke= no rotation of crankshaft=no compression for next stroke=no running engine, got it?
ps. if you dont belive it, the next diesel truck you see idling go suck on the exhaust for 30mins because by your logic no fuel useage=no co2/carbon monoxide right? ;)

I drive an 84 Blazer with 6.2L Diesel V8, engine that is more than 4 times bigger than 1.5L Prius one. I should use 4 times more fuel, right? I average 20MPG, Prius is lucky to get 50, hmmm. Green sence;
Prius dumps about 400lb of CO2 per every 1000miles, my Blazer about 1300. 4 times more should be 1600lb and thats on regular diesel, using Biodiesel, that number could be cut in half.
So, liter per liter, my 20+ year old V8 Chevy truck is Greener and more efficient than a Prius!!!

At 0:51, the girl sounds stoned. No offense intended! Lolz.

again its the compression that keeps the diesel motor running. NOT THE DIESEL FUEL! alot of semi drivers dont shut their truck off. think about it.

once again, what is fueling this compression, it cannot happen on its own or it would be on all the time, you need fuel to create this compression, and while diesels use very minute amounts of fuel to idle (small diesel engines) they are STILL using fuel. think, if they didn’t burn fuel, why would anyone ever shut off their diesel vehicles

maybe you should research diesel engines. a diesel engine uses compression to run. meaning at idle it uses NO FUEL to run. if a semi truck used fuel at idle then the driver would shut it off. you dont know much about the prius. the prius uses its electric motors in stop and go traffic. at highway speeds it uses both electric and gas motor to move it. you are right about the charging thing. either way the prius is not the answer to saving fuel and the enviroment. diesel is our answer!

maybe you should research a little more before you say that diesels don’t use fuel when they idle… when that engine is running it is burning fuel whether you like it or not, only when the engine is off on any vehicle will the fuel consumption be 0. On the prius when the batteries are fully charged and the engine shuts off the fuel consumption goes to zero, only for as long as that engine isn’t running. Like my father once told me, only fight a battle if you KNOW your RIGHT

14 mpg, my truck gets 7 what is the difference

I meant the diesel

it doesnt get exceptional gas milage, and you pay more for the gas.

…. Of course they do.
otherwise I could leave a diesel golf in a shed and come back 20 years later with it running.

Cheaper than a prius mate ;)

32 is bad MPG for you?!?! WTF my car gets 17 MPG and thats considered good by my standards.
