“Normal” driving with a 2007 VW Rabbit got me 22 mpg in town, but gentle acceleration and shifting gears at lower rpm resulted in 25-28 mpg *in town* with every tank.
Driving slower with that same Dodge diesel truck also increased my hwy. mpg:
70 mph= 21-23
65 mph= 24
55 mph= 28
So driving slower means 25% savings in fuel for me, consistent over the last 160,000 miles I’ve driven the same truck, and gets me an extra 210 miles out of each tank on the highway. Yes, still in the right lane. :-)

First off, yes- I stay over in the right lane! :-) I drive a Dodge diesel truck, and since gently doesn’t use the turbo as much, my city mileage improved from 16 mpg up to 20 mpg, a savings of 25% over my previous driving. For my 35 gal. tank, that’s like getting 8.75 gal. free, which equals $25 worth of fuel each tank. Yes, driving smart is well worth it for me; I fill up every three weeks, so that equals over $400 a year I save.

Obama should have told us about this instead of telling us to inflate our tires!

love the comment, so true.

i apologize, i was probably having a bad day.

yours just happened to be the first i seen. i don’t look at all the comments on videos usually. just the ones under the video. i was trying to be funny but you seem to have taking it seriously

you suck. out of all the posts to this video, mine is the tamest. you are such a coward that you won’t address some REAL insults even under anonymity. loser.

so do a lot of people who want to save gas and money. i don’t think that is a insult like you are trying to make it. it’s kinda a complement so thanks. what’s the point in racing to a light? there is none.

congrats you just saved $.00000002 Thats $.16 over a year. If everyone does it, it’ll save enough gas to make up for Al Gore’s private jet taxiing 100 yards to its hangar.

HaHaHa Don’t worry Obama will hope/change us out of this mess

I have driven a sportbike across the nation for 3500 miles. I just drove our family(4 people and baggage) in my 2001 Ford Taurus V6 station wagon in July for 2500 miles round trip for the family reunion. I have a Class A license and am a proffessional driver. You are not making anyone safer by slowing, disturbing or impeding the flow of traffic. We are all aware of government ass clowns over-charging for gas but let’s not punish each other.

is this a new development or were you always stupid? first of all, if you come to a complete stop, you are losing your momentum no matter what, 2 seconds sooner or later (especially in an automatic) isn’t going to make a difference. Second of all, accelerating at near full throttle in peak torque is the most efficient way to accelerate, thats what the engines were designed for. Putting away from a stop is just filling your cylinders with carbon buildup and wasting gas.

you drive like my grandma

Gasoline is more critical to daily operations for average Americans than Euros, primarily due to geographic distribution. Many americans work in neighboring cities. Like myself. Why not move? Part of the family works to the east, I work to the west, both in different cities than the one we live in. And don’t say “get a different job” - in Michigan that’s an unfunny joke.

Still, there are way too many spoiled bitches riding solo in SUVs in the US, so the price of gas isn’t high enough yet.

Save all the money you can hypermiling….
You need the cash later to fix that hybrid and replace those batteries!

Sure the hybrid is a low polluter, as a final product. But the manufacturing of the car is where it’s pollution begins. Especially the batteries.
Oh wait… the batteries are made in China…]
Who cares right?

Wrong…
Pollution is pollution.

boy isn’t this brillant lol what are you an attention whore who doesn’t know that coasting improves mileage? You can save much more by just driving 5 mph under the speed limit when it’s 50 mph or above. Please tell us something we don’t know.

Do you think the gallon is expensive in US? LOL
In my country is 10.5 dollars per gallon, and our wages are a lot lower then yours.
You have free gas, I don’t even know how you manage to have gas at such lower prices, and, on the top of it you protest saying that the gallon is expensive…

No one is causing accidents from this driving style. How can we cause accidents by going slower? We can cause more by going faster and if you’re behind the slow people like myself approaching a stoplight… guess what… we will both be at that stoplight until it turns green. We save our gas and yours without you even trying. By driving this way I can get an additional 4 mpg in town. That’s about 12 dollars per tank savings.

In america, Edit.

Noway! Im not letting OPEC steal all my money! Im america we should all drive like this.. Draft, Coat, DRIVE SLOW. I have V8 Chevrolets and I have been doing this and have been SLOWING DOWN on the highway, Greatly improving the overall MPG. And… Ill still blow your doors off if I want to pass anyone.

Traffic problems are from people following too close and using there brakes alot. If you coast, This makes driving safer IMHO because distances are increased, thus allowing more reaction time

And, as the video shows, all other traffic is flowing out of the way and I’m still sitting behing your slow ass. YOU ARE CAUSING ACCIDENTS AND TRAFFIC PROBLEMS. Get out of my way.

I gave this “hypermiling” a try with my CRX. MPG went from 29 overall to 37 overall in my first attempt. That adds up to $48/month saved for me. I’m gonna try and break 40mpg with some other techniques…

saving $.. did you really have to ask that question?

diesel is the only way for us to save the planet and get good gas mileage. forget these plastic hybrids. my friend has a prius and it only gets 46 miles per gallon. not much at all since its suppose to get 65. my 7600lb duramax gets 20 miles per gallon and im getting roughly 600 miles per tank. my trucks is stock and with the upgrades i just ordered i should get closer to 700 miles per tank.

Jeeze…The world is not in jedordy that badly, whats the point?
