Do alloy wheels really get better gas mileage?

I’ve heard that alum-alloy wheels give you better gas mileage than steel because they’re lighter. Makes sense, but I’m wondering if anyone has switched from steel to alloy and had it make enough of a gas mileage difference for them to notice it. Wondering whether the gas money I’ll save over time is anywhere comparable to the cost of buying new wheels.
